On 20 May 1997, The British
Library launched OPAC97 - which
offers free access to the
catalogues of the British Library's unique collections.
The catalogue contains over 8.5 million bibliographic
records for material held for both Reading Room and
document supply purposes. Brian Kefford of The
British Library gave a tour of the new service
to our Editor, who was most impressed. Our Editor has no
doubt that this service will prove immensely useful and
it is destined to become "a mega star". OPAC
97 can be accessed with any Web browser (such as
Netscape Navigator or Microsoft Internet Explorer). The
collections that can be searched are:
